Beach Boys 1964 : It was billed as a holiday show - Thanksgiving Weekend - 1964. Jan and Dean were a no-show, but the Shangri-Las, Jay and the Americans and Gino Washington were great warm-up acts. And then there were those California surfers and hot-rodders - The Beach Boys.

BEACH BOYS 1965 : May 1965 - Cobo Hall, Detroit, Michigan. Glen Campbell, Sham the Sham and the Pharoahs and the Beach Boys. I was on the floor again and the seats were - well - sort of close but not great.

The James Montgomery Blues Band #2 : James was still a teenager in Detroit when he discoverd the Blues. While friends at school were listening to the Beach Boys and the Kingsmen, James was checking out the Blues records at a place on Monroe..."Little Willie James Clark Junior's House of Process (and written underneath) and Record Store." The front of the store was a barber shop and in the records -bins of 45s for 25 cents each - were in the back.

Only Living Witness 6/14/2008 : Cambridge, Massachusetts. The Middle East - Downstairs. Saturday. 14 June 2008. Midnight.
It has been more than a decade since Only Living Witness performed live.
That was all going to change.

Who's at the helm
Of the purge that looms?
Should I bother trying to see
Outside of this room?
I can tell you now, I'll be left behind
On that fabled day
When the beggars will ride

Pete Shimkin & the SellOuts : February 6 was a special night.
The SellOuts and a multitude of friends and co-workers gathered at the Pasta Loft in Milford to say thanks to a man who did so much to make their working lives a little easier.
Pete Shimkin is a true professional, skilled at a most difficult job, a veritable walking encyclopedia of obscure facts and a man who possesses a keen wit and a hearty laugh.
His departure had been unexpected and abrupt; we were not given the time to say thank you, Pete.
So we got together over a few drinks, listened to some kick ass rock n roll and made a night of it.
Again, thanks Pete for all you did for us.

Russell Hill at the Pasta Loft : Milford, New Hampshire.
A rainy Saturday night in early March.
The patrons of the Pasta Loft were about to witness a transformation.
The Russell Hill Band, noted for its soft harmonies and flowing melodies, was gonna kick some serious Rock n Roll butt.
As a fellow musician once said, "Music should strike fire from the heart of man, and bring tears from the eyes of woman." Yes, I think Beethoven would have enjoyed the evening.

I must bring two things to your attention.

First, Rick Carr, sequestered in a dark corner behind his drum set, provided a driving beat which propelled RH all night long. However, it was just about impossible to photograph him.

Second, I am sorry to report that due to the raw, animal energy of the night's music, Morgan's highly anticipated reading from Jewel's "A Night Without Armor: Poems" had to be postponed.

Russell Hill & the 2006 Pumpkin Festival : In the Fall the good people of Milford, New Hampshire, hold a Pumpkin Festival in the town oval. One of the draws to the festival is the musical entertainment provided by local musicians. This year the boys of Russell Hill took the stage on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.
